The First Light of Spring
March Awakening: Noticing Growth in Transition
March carries a sense of movement and possibility. The air warms, snow melts into puddles, and early buds push through damp soil. This month urges awareness outward and inward, observing changes in the world while noticing shifts in my own mind. Consciousness feels like a dance between releasing old habits and nurturing new intentions.
Unlike winter’s stillness, March calls for active attention. I see renewal in the first crocus, hear birds’ tentative songs, and watch sunlight stretch longer across the day. These signs prompt reflection: How have I grown? Which patterns no longer serve me?
Awareness is not passive; it invites full engagement, recognizing endings and beginnings without fear or judgment.
Self-reflection often comes through movement. Walks in parks or slow drives become exercises in mindfulness.
I sense how energy shifts with the season, how optimism rises after winter, and how lingering anxieties remain beneath the surface. Consciousness deepens when I pause to feel contrasts, inhabiting each thought and sensation fully. Ordinary moments reveal richness and opportunity for self-understanding.
March also teaches the balance of anticipation and patience. Growth, in nature and within, takes time. Early buds remind me that awareness, too, requires gentle cultivation. I reflect on my tendency to push for results and remind myself that conscious living often means trusting unseen processes. Awareness becomes both a practice and a lens through which life is met with curiosity, openness, and resilience.
Ultimately, March encourages embracing transition. Consciousness is not merely observation - it is noticing potential, participating in life’s unfolding, and honoring shifts both subtle and dramatic. As winter recedes, I feel called to carry awareness into every action, to notice growth in myself and others, and to live fully awake, marked by reflection, presence, and receptivity to the new.
Please feel invited to go out and feel the power of this month.

I had some early small daffodils yesterday peak through into the sun. The three of them came at least two weeks ahead of the time they usually give me cheer. A trio which I talked to and to which I gave thanks. - a blue Nebraskan in a red state.
